City Developments Limited (CDL)’s flagship youth environmental outreach programme, the Youth4Climate (Y4C) Festival, returns for its 7th edition in its largest scale ever this year. It will be held across two days from 13 to 14 July 2024. This is CDL’s of support for Go Green SG Week (formerly known as Climate Action Week) organised by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE), to rally youths and the community to accelerate climate action. DPM Heng Swee Keat, along with Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of National Development, Mr Tan Kiat How will grace the event. DPM Heng will also deliver opening remarks at the Y4C Festival on 13 July.

In line with Go Green SG’s aim to rally and mobilise the community to take collective action towards a sustainable future for Singapore, CDL has rolled out an exciting line-up of climate-themed initiatives, which include the following:

Youth4Climate Concert

  • The 5th Y4C Concert will be held at the Heartbeat@Bedok main stage area on 13 July from 4.45pm. The concert will kick off with an inspiring “Go Green SG Jingle” performance with piano and guitar, written and performed by MSE Ambassadors, Annette Lee and Glenn Yong.
  • This year’s concert showcases an exciting line-up of singing, dancing and instrumental acts by talented youths, as well as a storytelling session from winners of CDL’s 2024 “We Love Our Planet” Storytelling Contest.

Eco-Marketplace

  • With a growing community of sustainable green vendors in Singapore, the Eco- Marketplace will feature over 30 sustainable vendors who are passionately dedicated to promoting sustainability and eco-conscious living.
  • DPM Heng and Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How will mingle with eco-partners at the Eco-Marketplace on 13 July.

Eco Educational Workshops

  • Y4C 2024’s specially curated line-up of eco educational and hands-on workshops will educate guests on taking climate action and experience eco-conscious living.
  • Amongst CDL’s workshop partners are EB Impact, GWS Living Art, The Fashion Pulpit, Stridy, Tembusu CSR, and Alpha Fitness, who will cover topics on creative writing, sustainable fashion, upcycling, food waste and food security, importance of mental well-being and an active lifestyle, and more.

Movie Screening

  • Zootopia (13 July, 6.00pm) and Big Hero 6 (14 July, 5.00pm) will be screened to encourage viewers to learn more about the impact of climate challenges, interconnected ecosystems, and technology and innovation.
  • Delectable food booths providing free snacks such as popcorn, ice cream, candy floss and hotdog buns will be available for guests to enjoy with the movies.

CDL is honoured to have DPM Heng launch the 2024 runs of two long-standing initiatives – the CDL E-Generation Challenge and the Singapore Young Photographer Award.

E-Generation Challenge

  • In collaboration with East Coast GRC, CDL will host the 13th edition of the CDL E-Generation Challenge. The challenge’s registration link will be launched at the Y4C Concert for interested youths to participate.
  • Started in 2010, the CDL E-Generation Challenge is a competition that unearths talented young eco-advocates from Singapore and the ASEAN region, giving them an exciting platform to inspire thousands towards collective climate action for a greener and more sustainable future. Winners will be sent on exciting overseas excursions to experience firsthand the impacts of climate change and find solutions.

Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA)

  • This year, CDL continues its long-standing partnership with photography arts organisation, DECK, to present the 9th edition of SYPA, as it makes its first comeback after a hiatus from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • This year’s theme, titled “Worlds Within”, calls upon young photographers to visualise what it means to live in harmony with nature, reflecting on the themes of sustainability and mental wellness through their lens.
  • Initiated and spearheaded in 2005 by CDL’s late Deputy Chairman, Mr Kwek Leng Joo, SYPA is the only national award for Singapore photographers between the ages of 13 and 25. It promotes and cultivates the art of photography amongst young Singaporeans, and inspires youths to engage positively with our environment through art.

Ms Esther An, CDL’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “Youths are one of our best allies in fighting climate change. For the world to urgently reach the critical mass needed to accelerate climate action, we must tap on the power of youth to build a bigger force of change. This year, we are glad to present the 7th edition of CDL’s Youth4Climate Festival, the largest scale since its culmination. With a resolute focus on nurturing youths, this festival aims to amplify eco consciousness and calls to action amongst our future eco-champions, to support the global and national climate agenda.”
