PLEDGE TO CONSERVE OUR POLAR REGIONS

Recognizing the severe environmental impact that climate change has on people and communities throughout the world,

Considering that global warming and inevitable melting of glaciers at the polar regions has a devastating impact on countries, particularly in Southeast Asia like Singapore,

Stressing that even if carbon emissions are halted today, Singapore will still experience significant sea level rise in the future amounting to up to 10 centimetres by 2030,

Appreciating the momentum that governmental parties, NGOs, and the public sector is bringing to increase climate change awareness at the global and local level,

Emphasizing that a unique opportunity now exists to band together to conserve the polar regions and its glaciers,

I resolve to work to raise awareness for detrimental environmental impacts caused by climate change and global warming through actions such as:

• Pledging my support to Saving Glaciers Alliance, a coalition dedicated to raising awareness on the protection of the North and South arctic poles, launched by CDL in partnership with environmentalist Sir Robert Swan, the first man to walk unaided to both the North and South poles;
• Contributing to this campaign via donations to Robert Swan’s 2041 Foundation, an organisation founded for engaging businesses and communities on climate science, personal leadership, and the promotion of sustainable practices through various programmes;

I resolve to work with professionals and communities in this country:

To promote the highest standards of environmental practices and behaviours to reduce the risks of climate-induced catastrophes;

To foster and sustain collaboration and engagement across all sectors to ensure full utilization of knowledge and experience in the field of polar region conservation;

To encourage senior management support and role-modelling from key staff to promote the encouragement to support Saving Glaciers Alliance.
