Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA)

Sustainability has always been deeply rooted in CDL’s heritage. Aside from embedding sustainability in our business, we also saw the opportunity to leverage our track record as a leading green builder to promote sustainability within the community. Tapping on our network of partners and expertise in green buildings, we designed and built the SSA, which opened on World Environment Day, 5 June 2017.

The SSA is the first ground-up initiative and zero-energy facility in Singapore dedicated to advocacy, thought leadership, collaboration, and capacity building for climate action and green causes. The academy embraced the SDGs with an extensive partnership involving six government agencies and 15 industry and NGO partners including our operating partner, Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS).

To adapt to COVID-19 Circuit Breaker measures, we have taken Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA) events online to continue promoting sustainable living with our partners. We have since worked with expert partners to roll out interactive virtual SSA workshops, such as a Sustainability Bingo with Green is the New Black founder Stephanie Dickson and a storytelling workshop by the National Library Board.

Registration for Virtual SSA workshops is free. Follow CDL Sustainability on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to get the latest news of Virtual SSA.

The SSA is a BCA Green Mark Platinum building and was the first building in Singapore to have its construction materials, Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam), verified by the Nature’s BarcodeTM system as coming from responsible sources. As a zero-energy building, the SSA has installed over 3,200 square feet of PV panels, and a real-time energy tracker system to measure its solar energy yield. Over the first two years of operations, the PV panels generated an annual yield of some 60,000 kWh, exceeding the average energy consumption of about 50,000 kWh per annum.

Request Venue Usage

  • SSA is an excellent resource in the heart of Singapore with its mandate to offering a venue, that walks the sustainability talk [being powered by solar, using sustainably timbre in the structure], to not-for-profit sustainable events so that they can take place seamlessly. Accolades to CDL for investing in a facility like SSA that has a mandate to support such events. The CDL team we worked with was proactive, helpful and truly committed to the cause of sustainability

  • The Built Environment Young Leaders Retreat 2018 held at the SSA would not have been a success without the generous support from CDL. We deeply appreciate the partnership and support for future initiatives. In line with SSA’s mission to promote a low carbon economy, resource efficiency and sustainable practices among the youths, we will continue with the strong partnership with CDL in engaging our youths for BuildSG initiatives.

  • The SSA is a conveniently located eco training academy which has provided many groups a comfortable space to host our events. By providing such a physical infrastructure, it has allowed many groups to carry out our capacity building efforts to address climate change. Thank you SSA for the support!

  • The space was perfect for this climate change related talk, and offered a cosy, conducive location for participants to discuss the subject as a collective group. It was a memorable night for all the right reasons! It was comfortable, and the temperature was just right.
